COVID-19: Romain Alexandre (Departmental Delegate of ARS) Gives an Update on the Situation

Latest News

Last night, Romain Alexandre, the departmental delegate of the Regional Health Agency, provided an update on the progression of the coronavirus epidemic in the Alpes-Maritimes.

The incidence rate continues its slow decline. For every 100,000 inhabitants, it decreased from 133 new infected patients on Friday evening to 110 this Monday. “This decrease must be observed over time to confirm a real reduction in the incidence rate,” Romain Alexandre explains.

Around fifty patients are currently hospitalized in public and private healthcare facilities in the department. The number of intensive care cases has been steadily increasing since July, rising from three to about fifteen patients. A worrying figure, but now stable. According to the departmental delegate of the ARS, “the major challenge is to preserve the intensive care capacity in the department to ensure scheduled medical care alongside COVID-19 activity, which requires intensive care. Today, everything must be done to avoid needing intensive care to preserve those requiring scheduled treatments.”

Meanwhile, the Prefect drew attention to the issue of road safety: “We have a number of polytraumatized individuals that is only increasing.” The number of serious accidents is also rising sharply, leading to increased needs for intensive care services. “I appeal to the reason and civility of our Maralpins. A safety campaign led by law enforcement has already begun.”

This weekend, a large number of tickets for speeding and dangerous behavior were issued by the gendarmerie services.
