Economy: Inflation is still low

In October 2015, the annual inflation in the OECD area increased (0.6%, compared to 0.4% in September). In France, it was 0.1% against 0% in the previous month.

During the same period, energy prices fell year-on-year (-11.6%) but at a slightly slower rate than in September 2015 (-12.4%).

In October, food prices slightly increased by 1.5% year-on-year, compared to 1.4% in September. Excluding food and energy, the annual inflation in the OECD area was stable at 1.8% in October.

In October 2015, the annual inflation increased or was stable in all major economies of the OECD area.

Annual inflation increased in Germany and Japan (0.3%, compared to 0.0%), in the United States (0.2%, compared to 0.0%), in France (0.1%, compared to 0.0%), and in Italy (0.3%, compared to 0.2%).

It remained stable in Canada (1.0%) and the United Kingdom (-0.1%). Among other OECD countries, the annual inflation was 7.6% in Turkey and 2.5% in Mexico.

In the euro area, the annual inflation measured by the HICP was 0.1% in October, compared to -0.1% in September. Excluding food and energy in the euro area, the annual inflation increased to 1.1% in October, compared to 0.9% in September.

The annual inflation in the G20 area slightly increased to 2.5% in October 2015.

Among non-OECD countries, the annual inflation increased in Brazil (to 9.9%), South Africa (to 4.6%), and Saudi Arabia (to 2.4%). Conversely, it decelerated in Indonesia (to 6.2%), China (to 1.3%), and slightly more in the Russian Federation (to 15.6%).
