“From Rio to Paris, from one dream to another” at the National Museum of Sport

Latest News

As the Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games have just ended, the National Sports Museum takes over and presents its new temporary exhibition titled “From Rio to Paris, from one dream to another.”

From October 20th to January 15th, 2017, the space dedicated to temporary exhibitions in the Museum transforms into an Olympic village to provide (already) a retrospective of these Games through the discovery of Rio, highlighting the performances of the French delegations, but also to project into the heart of France’s bid to host the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2024.

The first part of the exhibition allows visitors to immerse themselves in the festive and colorful atmosphere of Rio, a symbolic host city of these Olympic Games, only two years after hosting the 2014 FIFA World Cup, despite a very challenging economic and political context.

The French performances are also showcased through images: from the infectious joy of the fencers to the shared happiness of the boxing couple Tony Yoka and Estelle Mossely, from the tears of Renaud Lavillenie to Amélie Le Fur’s radiant smile, French athletes lived up to the expectations placed on them, as epitomized by their flag bearers Teddy Riner and Michaël Jeremiasz. The journey reveals the great stories of these historic Games for the French team, culminating in a new record of Olympic medals: 42 podiums, including 10 gold titles.

The second act of this initiation journey takes place in Paris, an Olympic city par excellence, having already hosted the Games twice in 1900 and 1924, and especially because it embodies the hope of an entire country with its desire to host them again in 2024.

The advantages, secrets, and symbols of this innovative project are scrutinized to discover the specifics of an Olympic ambition driven by legendary athletes.
