This Wednesday, February 7, Gil Marsalla was awarded the insignia of Knight in the Order of Arts and Letters by the mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi.
At the Villa Massena, Gil Marsalla, musician, producer, and director from Nice, received the insignia of Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters. He stated: “Tonight, it is our part of the heritage that is being highlighted, that of French chanson and the Francophonie. Tonight, we honor the richness of the Nice show.”
Before presenting the medal to Gil Marsalla, Christian Estrosi, the mayor of Nice, emphasized that “Nice is a city of culture where various forms intermingle, bringing joy to us all. There is traditional ancient culture, that of our language, major institutions, and popular culture.”
Gil Marsalla is a child of the region, born in Nice Nord, where he decided to open Directo Production, a performing arts company showcasing the brilliance of French musical heritage worldwide. A company based in Nice, employing locals, and holding national and international renown records.
International Success
Gil Marsalla succeeded in making the French musical heritage an international success through productions that he produces and directs. Two thousand performances in 80 different countries.
Observing during his travels, the success of iconic French songs by artists such as Édith Piaf and Charles Aznavour, Gil Marsalla found inspiration to export performances celebrating the richness of French musical heritage.
His show “Piaf Symphonique” has become the biggest global success in the French-speaking world. Likewise, the show “Formidable“, portraying the story of Charles Aznavour, has been a worldwide success.
“Thanks to my country, thanks to French chanson, thanks to all of you, I have been able to achieve my French dream,” concludes the director.
