Ice Hockey: The Eagles on Display

Latest News

A beautiful victory for Nice Hockey last night against Caen with a sweeping score of 9-0. The Azur team secures their second victory in 2016 and positions themselves as a serious contender for promotion to the Magnus League.

A flying start
The Eagles decided not to waste any time last night on their ice rink. Just 43 seconds into the game, Zbynek Hampl breaks through the Caen defense. He then passes the puck to Vladimi Kubus, who beats the opposing goalkeeper. 1-0 for Nice.

But the Nice players didnโ€™t stop there. Barely two minutes after opening the score, Lukas Spelda doubled the lead for Nice with a long shot that found its way into the top corner of the Caen goalkeeperโ€™s net. Already 2-0 just 3 minutes into the first period.

Then the game becomes more balanced. The Eagles are penalized with two players in the penalty box. Despite their numerical advantage, the Normans fail to score, notably due to Vojtech Sedlacek, the solid Nice goalkeeper on his goal line. Still 2-0 for Nice at the time of retreating to the locker rooms.

The Eagles in control
In the second period, the Caen Drakkars had puck possession. They camped in the Eagles’ defensive zone but still couldnโ€™t break through. Their lack of efficiency would be fatal.

Half an hour into the game, a Norman player receives a penalty. The Nice players wasted no time increasing the score thanks to Martin Vojsovic. 3-0 for the Eagles amid a frenzied atmosphere.

Seemingly defeated, the Caen defense was nowhere to be found when Aurรฉlien Macon started a slalom. He easily got past his defender and went on to deceive the goalkeeper with a shot in the top corner. 4-0, and still no answer from Caen. But the worst was yet to come for them.

The last period was a formality for the Eagles. They scored 5 goals, including a brace from Vladimi Kubus. The cup was full for the Caen Drakkars.

At the end of the match, Vojtech Sedlacek, the Nice goalkeeper, was named man of the match. A well-deserved title given how solid he was, particularly when Caen had a numerical advantage.

The next meeting for the Azur hockey players is now set for Tuesday night against Neuilly-sur-Marne.
