Nice Premium: Why did you call this second album “Les souvenirs sous ma frange”?
Rose: I found it was a title that perfectly encapsulated and represented the album and all the songs within it. It’s a mix between the past (the memories) and the fringe (which is trendy and gives a sense of a young woman in her thirties). You could summarize the album like this: “the memories of a young girl who lives in the present, looks back at the past, and fears the future!”
Nice Premium: Your two favorite tracks on the album are “De ma fenêtre” and “Chez moi.” Why these two titles more than others?
Rose: Because in this album, I’ve opened up more than ever. I addressed my fears, my anxieties with great precision… In the first album, I wouldn’t allow myself to talk about them because it was a break-up album. Then finally in this second work, I really needed to, and these two songs touch me more than others because they are very personal.
Nice Premium: Why did you choose to release a limited edition alongside the standard edition?
Rose: Because some of the songs I recorded didn’t find their place on the album. Initially, I wanted an album that would evoke a bit of how I made the album, but it didn’t happen… So when my record label suggested this bonus edition, I was thrilled, and I added tracks like “Mes Frangines” that I composed after recording the album.
Nice Premium: It seems you faced difficulties making this album?
Rose: Yes, it’s true, it took me a long time to write. I kept wondering what people expected from me. Everyone kept telling me they were moved by my first album, that I spoke about their lives through my words… As for me, I was wondering if I wanted to do something a bit less personal. Ultimately, things led to something even more personal. But I must say, I struggled through its creation…
Nice Premium: Is a tour planned to bring this album to life on stage?
Rose: I’m only waiting for one thing, to go on tour. I’m not even thinking about a third album. I will be in Marseille on December 13, in Paris – La Cigale, on the 15th. The tour will also go through Quebec, where I gave my very last concert in August 2008 at the Francofolies de Montréal, and it was fantastic! And of course in Nice, but a bit later…
Nice Premium: When you come to Nice, you have an audience already won over… Is that quite enjoyable for you?
Rose: That’s not true! For me, nothing is won, nothing is secured. It’s a basic premise. It might be won over because there’s the love from many people I know, but for me, it’s much more daunting. To them, I am Keren, they want to know who Rose is, and it’s a bit complicated because they don’t quite differentiate…
Nice Premium: In Nice, your home, many memories of Dad, Mom, and then the promotion in the city that saw you grow up. If there were a specific place in Nice you would think of when back in Paris, which would it be?
Rose: Without hesitation, Le Parc Chambrun! It’s my entire childhood, I used to come out of school just above, and my grandfather was waiting for me. We would go to the garden together with my brother. My parents would pick me up in the evening. It’s one of the best moments of my life. There’s a temple at the top of the park, the Temple of Love. I’ve married there 20 times already, with many personalities!
