One of the main (and preferred?) strategies of the former mayor of Nice’s electoral campaign is the meticulous analysis and critique of his successor’s statements to the press. According to him, Christian Estrosi has the unfortunate habit of claiming achievements and merits that are not his own.
Hence the necessity, even “an obligation for a lawyer!”, to set things right and give credit where credit is due. This works just as well with “Jacques”…
From there to calling his rival a liar… The line is cheerfully crossed, especially considering there is still a month left in the electoral campaign!
Jacques Peyrat clarifies: “I want to remind everyone that these three projects (the green corridor, Pasteur II hospital, and the Claude Pompidou Alzheimer’s Institute) were launched during my second term from 2001 to 2008, and just because Mr. Estrosi is inaugurating them, doesn’t mean he should claim their authorship.”
The second salvo is aimed at the Allianz Riviera: “I remind that the grand stadium project was launched in 2003, and Mr. Estrosi merely constructed the same stadium, at the same location, but at a price three times higher, while excluding training grounds, the training center, adequate parking, and tramway line 3.
And he concludes, saber in hand, with the Gare du Sud, for which the former mayor maintains his project to install a new town hall: “Regarding the Gare du Sud, which is indeed the subject of an appeal before the Administrative Justice, it should be noted that the goal is to contest the sale for 1 euro to a private developer of land paid for by Nice taxpayers at 12.8 million euros. I persist in thinking that the Gare du Sud site should have hosted the new Town Hall with a public parking lot of 1,500 spaces, and not Mr. Estrosi’s real estate operation with a public parking of only 311 spaces contrary to the misleading 750 spaces announced.”
