MotoGP (Grand Prix of the Americas): Fabio Quartararo extends his lead in the World Championship

Latest News

Fabio Quartararo could not do anything against Marc Marquez this Sunday evening in the Americas GP. However, by taking second place, he extends his lead in the MotoGP World Championship.

The French rider will have the chance to become world champion at the next Grand Prix. He finished ahead of Francesco Bagnaia, his runner-up in the rider standings. If Quartararo finishes ahead of the Italian’s Ducati in the Emilia-Romagna GP, he will be the first Frenchman to be crowned MotoGP world champion.

Starting from third position, the six-time Spanish world champion took the lead in the first corner of the race and was never caught. As from 2013 to 2018, he won after completing 20 laps for his 58th victory in MotoGP.

The Italian rider Francesco Bagnaia recovered from his poor start to ultimately finish in third place, giving him the right to still hope for the world title.

On his side, the other Frenchman engaged, Johann Zarco, started on the second row but crashed early in the race. He couldn’t influence the race and lost a spot (5th) in the world championship.
