The Nice deputy comes in first in the second round of municipal elections with 45% of the vote. Christian Estrosi is overtaken, and the green candidate Juliette Chesnel-Le Roux comes in third.
Éric Ciotti won the municipal election in Nice, according to initial estimates published Sunday evening. The Nice deputy obtained 47% of the votes. Christian Estrosi received 37% far ahead of Juliette Chesnel-Le Roux who obtained 16%.
This result marks a political shift in the city. Éric Ciotti takes the place of Christian Estrosi, his former mentor turned rival who was seeking a fourth term. The head of the UDR, allied with the National Rally, confirms his lead from the first round against the outgoing mayor from Horizons.
The absence of a “republican front” embodied by Juliette Chesnel-Le Roux who refused all alliances with Mireille Damiano and Christian Estrosi prevented any coalition. Appeals made to left-wing voters between the two rounds did not change the outcome of the election. This defeat could end a political career that began nearly 50 years ago.
A campaign marked by tensions
Éric Ciotti’s victory is part of a strategy begun in 2024. The rapprochement with the National Rally during the snap legislative elections, followed by the creation of the Union of the Right for the Republic, shaped this direction. The campaign took place without an official label. Several personalities joined the list, including Jean-Marc Governatori and Jean-Pierre Rivère.
The campaign was marked by tensions and controversies. Conflictual episodes characterized the final weeks.
The handover of power and the installation of the new municipal council are scheduled for March 27.
