Municipal Elections Nice 2008: Campaign Briefs

Latest News

UMP Red Card for Jacques Peyrat: “In accordance with Article 34 of its statutes, the Union for a Popular Movement has today suspended Jacques PEYRAT, a dissenting candidate in the municipal elections of NICE.
Consequently, he may not claim the support of the UMP, nor use the UMP logo during the campaign for the upcoming municipal and cantonal elections on March 9 and 16.” This terse press release announced the sanction imposed on the Mayor of Nice, Jacques Peyrat, who is now suspended by his party for dissidence, thereby aligning him with his council opponent Patrick Mottard, a dissenting candidate from the Socialist Party. In the match of dissidence, both the right and left find themselves at a standstill, with one candidate in each camp.

Patrick Mottard opens two offices: At Nice Autrement, things are really done differently since, like the other candidates, Patrick Mottard and his team will open two offices to cover Nice from south to north. The locations are at 10 Avenue Cyrille Besset and 64 Boulevard Risso, above the gallery of co-list member Christian Depardieu, where more information about Nice Autrement can be obtained.

Everyone except them: A mosque in Nice seems obvious to all the candidates in the next municipal election of Nice, all but one. Philippe Vardon and the Nice identity movement “Nissa Rebela” have even made it their electoral battleground. Could not one be as much Socca as Kebab in Nice?

Jacques Peyrat in the first district: Will he or won’t he? The suspense remains concerning the candidacy of Jacques Peyrat in the first canton of Nice, held by the socialist Marc Concas but especially coveted by Jacques Peyrat’s intimate enemy, Eric Ciotti. No information has leaked from the city hall, and the mayor’s suspension is likely not to provide an immediate answer that is certainly highly anticipated by the other candidates.

Some would have said no: The Niçois counterpart to Besson is slow to become known, and it is not for lack of trying on the part of the opposing lists of the Niçois left. Despite the desire to unveil the names and surnames of these two local politicians, having assured them complete anonymity, we can only recount their refusal to participate “prominently” in a list opposing theirs. Negative responses for both individuals who are still honored by this proposal.

Sian d’Aqui poses its questions: Although apolitical, the association Sian d’Aqui and its dynamic President, Fabrice Mauro, have created a questionnaire for all candidates in the municipal election to understand their positions on the major themes of Niçois life. The responses will be published on the Sian d’Aqui website and on Nice Premium. Each candidate responded positively to this initiative except Alain Roullier, who seems reluctant to give his answers. Unless he’s no longer really a candidate?

The time of the galettes: While we have not yet “drawn” the name of the Mayor, we can always draw the kings in the company of one of the contenders for the new title because in the coming days, the candidates for the municipal election of Nice risk indigestion from king cakes from associations, neighborhood committees, and sports clubs. Not to mention the traditional king cake of the candidates which will be worth the detour as the pressure in each camp starts to rise, rise, rise… But who will get the lucky charm this year?
