The oldest music festival in the world, created in 1948 in Nice, is undergoing a complete renewal. For this 2011 edition, there are many new elements because the Nice Jazz Festival has been taken over by the City of Nice.
This change in management brings with it a host of innovations, starting with the location, moving from Cimiez back to its roots at the Jardin Albert 1er and Place Massรฉna, in the heart of the city and just steps from the Promenade des Anglais, as during the early editions of the jazz festival in Nice.
The Nice Jazz Festival will hold its festivities from July 8 to July 12, 2011, for five evenings, bringing together 30 artist lineups.
Notably, this year, there is a significant reduction in ticket prices. The ticket will be 35 euros compared to an average of 55 euros in previous years.
This edition has as its theme, a tribute to the trumpeter Miles Davis, and is sponsored by one of his stage companions, the internationally renowned guitarist John McLaughlin, with a proven artistic director, Harry Lapp.
This year, NJF will offer an American-style lineup with two stages running simultaneously, including a 100% Jazz stage at the Thรฉรขtre de Verdure and a stage focused on current music at the Massรฉna stage.
Finally, a Nice Jazz Festival OFF that promises to be more extensive and qualitative than ever, bringing jazz to every corner of Nice, starting July 1st.
In short, enough to make the new Nice Jazz Festival a reference in the field!
