On Thursday, July 3rd at 8 PM, Les Tchatches return to Nice and will set the Cave Bocchi on fire. A breakdown of a unique concept.
After a noted edition in March at the Bar ร Potes, artists Maรฏder Fortunรฉ, Tanin Torabi, and Marion Saxod pass the baton. Itโs now the turn of the Cave Bocchi to welcome a new group of speakers: Momoko Seto, Julie Bรฉna, Eleonora Paciullo, and Hugo Berger. But who are these Tchatcheurs and Tchatcheuses, and what are they here to share?
Works that flash by at lightning speed
The principle is not complicated. The Tchatcheurs and Tchatcheuses each have 20 seconds (not a second more!) to present a piece of work, in its broadest sense: “an artist, an exhibition, a book, a project, whatever, as long as itโs art.โ With a microphone in hand, four artists will have six minutes and forty seconds to share their universe through twenty works. According to Julie Bรฉna, a video artist and performer, “Les Tchatches can serve as good introductions to various practices“. She adds, “I think it serves more as a gateway in itself“.
Echoing the same sentiment, Eleonora Paciullo says, “Any presentation with an audience allows us to convey a number of things. The interest of Les Tchatches lies in its demanding and eclectic programming. Being able to speak freely and informally about projects and initiatives is an integral part of artistic production“.
An art inspired by Pecha Kucha
“Pecha Kucha” is a Japanese expression meaning “conversationโ or “chitchatโ. It refers to the 20ร20 format mentioned earlier. Animation effects are minimal, allowing more room for eloquence, narration, and rhythm. Artists must be concise in their speeches: itโs an exercise requiring a strong command of the topic discussed.
“This format is clever because it is succinct, yet it allows for covering a good number of subjects. In this short span of time, we can give a glimpse of each project, and potentially spark interest to discover more and delve into books and magazines,” rejoices Eleonora Paciullo.
In preparation for the evening, Julie Bรฉna has undertaken an appropriate preparation: “I decided to focus on the creation of characters and alter egos through my films and performances. Twenty seconds is short. But itโs good training to try to communicate with people as clearly as possible.”
