Rudy Salles: The Socialist Party is seeing its number of deputies melt like snow in the sun.

Indeed, the various by-elections that have taken place over the past year have been consistently unfavorable to the President of the Republic’s party. Thus, the socialist party, which previously held an absolute majority in the National Assembly and therefore considered itself self-sufficient, now finds itself two seats away from losing this supremacy.

Worse, in various by-elections, including the 8th constituency for French citizens abroad and in Lot-et-Garonne, socialist candidates were eliminated in the first round. How can one speak of a โ€œmajority partyโ€ under such circumstances?

The Socialist Party is looking for scapegoats. In Lot-et-Garonne, it points fingers at the Greens, accusing them of having caused the election loss by daring to present a candidate. The Greens are outraged by this reaction, accusing the Socialist Party of having simply plummeted from 45% to 20% in one year. They add that the Socialist Party is pursuing policies contrary to the electoral commitments of the left and persist by complaining that the Socialist Party behaves as a hegemonic party, forgetting and disrespecting its allies.

“What remains of our loves?” the song asked. What remains of the majority? Just a few scraps and above all, a fierce determination by the Socialist Party to force through laws that the French people do not want, knowing that the rejection is massive and electoral defeat is imminent.

Meanwhile, after the communists quickly distanced themselves, the Greens now have one foot in the Government and one in the opposition. The Green Ministers remain silent, hoping to keep their posts as long as possible, while the MPs of the Ecologist group are preparing to fight against the Government.

To put an end to the impatience and, above all, to meet the expectations of the French people, I propose a solution within Franรงois Hollande’s reach: dissolution.

This would have the merit of returning power to the people, who would undoubtedly choose to change policies. Thus, the Socialist Party and the Greens could reflect on France’s problems while taking a “cure” of opposition.

It would harm no one, least of all France!
