For a perfect nutritional balance in the plates of young Niçois
Since the City of Nice resumed direct management of the school catering service (effective since this summer), young students in Nice have been enjoying delicious meals at school canteens prepared by Chef Ratatouille. 22,000 meals are served each day!
The aim is to offer children healthy and tasty meals, introduce them to seasonal and local products, and teach them the virtues of a balanced diet.
To improve the quality of meals and service every day, the City of Nice staff responsible for school catering are supported in their work by experts in health and nutrition.
Thus, the “Scientific Nutrition Council” was created.
Presided over by Stéphane Schneider, a professor of nutrition at the Nice University Hospital, this council is responsible for ensuring the quality of school catering, conducting health monitoring, playing an informational and educational role for all audiences, and providing advice to enhance the service offered to young Niçois.
Since the start of the school year, the 28 members of the Scientific Nutrition Council have conducted work in the fields of quality and food safety, taste education, staff training, and the detection of nutritional disorders.
This Monday, December 5, 2011, the CSN will officially present its report containing 21 recommendations that can be more or less quickly implemented by the city.
