Should the December Christmas Market be maintained?

Latest News

The Festival of Lights, which normally gathers millions of people in Lyon each year at the beginning of December, is canceled while the Strasbourg Christmas Market, one of the oldest in Europe, is maintained.

And in Nice? The traditional Christmas market, which includes an ice rink, is scheduled to start on December 5th and will last for one month.

Given the context and the security measures that will need to accompany it, is it useful and prudent to maintain the schedule as planned?

Are there good reasons to make a decision in one way or another?

In any case, the question deserves to be asked. Wouldn’t it be appropriate for a debate to take place and a decision to be made in a spirit and sense of partisan responsibility by the City Council, the place of urban democracy?

This is, at any rate, what one of the Council’s groups is asking: โ€œDue to the upsetting events that have just occurred in Paris, the Group of Independent Elected Officials of Nice, far from any political exploitation, requests the Mayor of Nice to convene the City Council to discuss the city’s security and more particularly that of places of worship, ceremonies, and events that will soon mark the celebrations of Christmas and Hanukkah.โ€
