The dynamics of the match quickly turned in favor of the player from Valbonne. From the first exchanges, Fiona Ferro set her rhythm, being aggressive on her initial hits, effective on returns, and very stable on serve. She quickly widened the gap by breaking her rival twice to clinch the first set 6-2 in just 38 minutes. Laura Pigossi never found her rhythm.
