The photographic exhibition “Femmes sportives 06” is visible for free on the gates of the regional museum of Asian arts until January 1, 2024.
They are 24 women involved in rock climbing, bowling, French boxing, weightlifting, football, shooting, or even baton twirling. These girls and women are high-level athletes and are licensed in clubs in the Alpes-Maritimes region. The disciplines highlighted include Olympic, non-Olympic, Paralympic, and summer sports.
Their names are Lisa Lerebours, Nadne Dupuy, Andréa Campoverde, Marie Joeph Fegue, Sarah Magnier, Lorna Castagnoli, and Sandrine Filippini, all honored through a series of portraits by German photographer Petra Bucher.
A resident of the Côte d’Azur since 2012 and a photographer for the OGC Nice Côte d’Azur women’s handball team, Petra Bucher was commissioned by CD06 to undertake this project. Faced with the diversity of selected sports, she aimed to “make the photographs as natural as possible without artificial treatment.” Taken during training or competition, the goal was to capture “the athlete in action at a given moment.”
Women’s sports under the spotlight ahead of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games
Highlighting women’s sports was a priority for the president of the Alpes-Maritimes Olympic and Sports Committee, Philippe Manassero, in the run-up to the 2024 Olympics and Paralympics.
Patricia Neuville, the coastal rowing champion, immortalized by Petra Bucher for this exhibition, emphasizes how the Paris 2024 Games will make history: “After many battles and politics, we will achieve parity in 2024. Finally, the Paris Olympics will be the first where we have gender parity across all events in all sports, and it’s quite breathtaking to say that!” Indeed, the IOC has confirmed that the Paris 2024 Games will be the first to showcase strict parity between women and men, among the 10,500 qualified athletes.
Born in 1962, she testifies: “All my life, I have been an athlete, in the history of sport, who was part of those in the minority, a little bit in the shadows.”
For two months, the 24 photos are visible on the exterior gates of the [Asian Arts Museum](https://www.nicepremium.fr/culture/le-monde-du-tatouage-a-lhonneur-au-musee-des-arts-asiatiques/), on Charles Buchet Avenue, just a few meters from the entrance to Parc Phœnix. This “Femmes sportives 06” exhibition was designed to be itinerant.
The PVC photographs, measuring 80cm by 60cm, will be made available to communes that request them, provided they are labeled “Terre de jeux 2024.” The first communes to have reserved this exhibition are Grasse, Pégomas, Cipières, Beuil, Menton, and Cagnes-sur-Mer.
