Since 1980, a team of volunteers has been operating the “Steam Train des Pignes” from Puget-Théniers (Alpes-Maritimes, 60 km from Nice).

This historic train, consisting of a steam locomotive and authentic vehicles from the 19th and 20th centuries, allows passengers to discover the valleys of the Upper Nice region and Haute-Provence at the pace of yesteryear.

It is composed of the famous steam locomotive and authentic vehicles from the 19th and 20th centuries. Highly appreciated by the residents of the Côte d’Azur and Provence, it offers a journey through the valleys of the Upper Nice region and Haute-Provence, reminiscent of bygone times.

The steam locomotive registered as E 327, classified as a historical monument, was put back into operation in 1980 by a team of volunteers. However, it has not been in service since 2007 and requires renovation to survive.

It was constructed in 1909 and is now classified as a historical monument as part of the railway heritage.

A complete overhaul is necessary to keep it operational for several more decades. This requires the full or partial replacement of its boiler and a variety of repairs to counteract the wear and tear on its over-century-old mechanics.

The GECP and the FACS have therefore decided to carry out a complete overhaul of the Fives-Lille locomotive E 327, which will maintain it in working order for several decades. Bringing it back into service will ensure the continued operation of the “Steam Train des Pignes,” benefiting the regional historical heritage and the economy of the rural communities along its route.

The Heritage Foundation is supporting the GEPC by launching a public fundraising campaign to help secure the additional financing needed for this restoration.

The subscription aims to help secure additional financing necessary to carry out this restoration successfully.

Everyone will be able to contribute, in their way, to the restoration of the locomotive. That is the goal of the Heritage Foundation, which is supporting the Study Group for the Railways of Provence (GECP), the operator of the Steam Train des Pignes.
