Christian Estrosi reacts to the CNOSF evaluation committee’s report.

“Nothing is decided yet, Nice is still in the race and will participate, next Wednesday, March 18, in Paris in the vote of the CNOSF’s Board of Directors.”

The CNOSF evaluation committee has just delivered its report on the candidacy files for the organization of the 2018 Winter Olympics and Paralympics.

It appears that along with Annecy and Grenoble, Nice is among the cities meeting the minimum requirements set by the International Olympic Committee. And Christian Estrosi is pleased with this.

However, the experts’ report clearly highlights the creation and use of a risk factor that was not initially communicated and is subjective. Its use results in a negative score since mathematically, it causes Nice to lose between 10 and 50% of an evaluation score.
For example, the general infrastructure score: 8/10 is, due to the application of the 0.5 coefficient, reduced to 5.29.

This risk factor does not weigh the same for all candidate cities; its impact is much less significant for the cities in the northern Alps.

It goes without saying that Nice remains fully committed to this competition with the same determination and enthusiasm.

At this stage, Nice finds itself in the same situation as Beijing and Sochi which, after the evaluation committee’s report, were in 3rd position, just as London was in 5th position. And yet, these cities triumphed. The technical scores did not prevent them from being finalists.

The fate of these cities suggests that today, Nice holds hopes and, for tomorrow, great ambitions.

“So how can we imagine that we will not fight until the end? Tonight, Friday, March 13, all the elected officials of the department will be gathered for the final stretch, and tomorrow, Saturday, March 14, alongside Marielle Goitschel, for the organization of a human chain along the entire Promenade des Anglais, thousands of local residents will gather under the colors of NICE 2018.”
