All this leads to a modern and colorful farce that, at times, disrupts the rigid codes of the too traditional, even dusty, boulevard comedy. Thanks to its dialogues of delightful incongruity and astonishing situations, it deliberately shifts into the delirious and surreal spirit of burlesque, in the style of Buster Keaton.
At home, Deputy Ventroux spends most of his time urging his wife Clarisse to dress decently. Indeed, she has the unfortunate habit of parading around in her chemise all day under the gaze of the domestic staff and any potential visitors, who, as one might expect, will arrive in a completely unexpected manner.
