Nice Premium: How did you come to hold the position of CROS president?
Alain Koubi: I have a diverse sports background: judo, table tennis, and then team sports. I was an average handball player, so I turned to coaching. I held a position in Nice handball for 15 years. Then, I joined the Côte d’Azur Handball League in 1978, becoming its president from 1990 to 2004. During that time, I was elected to the CROS in 1992, and I have been the president of this committee since 2008.
NP: What is the role of the Côte d’Azur CROS?
AK: We serve as an interface between the State, the General Council, and the Departmental Council, supporting sports structures in their operations. We review club projects and assist them in their endeavors. We provide subsidies and create sports jobs. We also play a training role to bring associations to a nearly professional level. Additionally, we try to focus on social integration through sports.
NP: What differentiates you from the Departmental Olympic and Sports Committee?
AK: Unlike the CDOS, we do not get involved in sports events. Our work is more discreet because it is administrative. We interact with them but try not to be on the same path. We have more of a role in implementing national policies. We serve as a relay for the French National Olympic and Sports Committee.
Côte d’Azur CROS also includes:
– A budget of around €400,000 funded by the Region and the CNOSF.
– A board of directors comprising 35 volunteers and 5 permanent employees.
– Shared management between the Var and the Alpes Maritimes.
– A quarterly journal: Passion Sport
