Press conference of the two political formations this Thursday at the Bar de la… Victoire. An emblematic choice? Indeed, the bar tables were made of wood!
The alliance of the Left and the Ecologists enabled them to win the regional elections in March 2010. In the Alpes Maritimes department, this alliance managed to tie with the UMP (36% for both parties) and even took the lead in Nice (39% of the votes compared to 36% for the UMP).
The upcoming cantonal elections in March 2011 are an important moment for the lives of the residents of our department and, for the first time, these cantonal elections will be decoupled from any other election.
The modification of voting conditions prompted by the President of the General Council of Alpes Maritimes, who, through an amendment, raised the threshold from 10 to 12.5% of registered voters to remain in the second round, along with territorial reform, constitutes a new blow to democracy and the expression of voters’ will (thus limiting the possibility of triangular contests, normally detrimental to the right, to the minimum and making it more difficult).
The Socialist Party and Europe Ecology-The Greens, in their diversity, carry a new vision for the future of this department, favoring a solidarity-based, sustainable development and a balanced territorial planning.
The Federation of the Socialist Party 06 and the Europe Ecology-The Greens Movement of the Alpes Maritimes have reached an electoral agreement for the cantonal elections on March 20 and 27, 2011, resulting in the following candidacies:
Canton Nice 8: Unique candidacy of Europe Ecology-The Greens supported by the PS
Canton Nice 11: Unique candidacy of the Socialist Party supported by EE-The Greens
Canton Nice 12: Unique candidacy of the Socialist Party supported by EE-The Greens
Canton Nice 14: Unique candidacy of the Socialist Party supported by EE-The Greens
Canton Cagnes Est: Unique candidacy of the Socialist Party supported by EE-The Greens
Canton Antibes Centre: Unique candidacy of Europe Ecology-The Greens supported by the PS
Canton Antibes Ouest: Unique candidacy of the Socialist Party supported by EE-The Greens
Canton Grasse Nord: Unique candidacy of Europe Ecology-The Greens supported by the PS
Canton Grasse Sud: Unique candidacy supported by Europe Ecology-The Greens and the Socialist Party
Canton St Vallier: Unique candidacy of Europe Ecology-The Greens supported by the PS

Canton de Levens: Unique candidacy supported by Europe Ecology-The Greens and the Socialist Party
Canton Villefranche: Unique candidacy of the Socialist Party supported by Europe Ecology-The Greens
Canton de Roquebilliรจre: Unique candidacy of the Socialist Party supported by Europe Ecology-The Greens
Moreover, the Federation of the Socialist Party of Alpes Maritimes and the Europe Ecology-The Greens Movement have agreed to jointly support the Diverse Left candidacy.
Canton Lantosque: Alain FARAUT
This agreement is unprecedented in its scope as it covers 15 cantons (in the previous election an agreement was reached on 4 cantons). It aims to initiate a strong dynamic in our department. It seeks to allow new voices to express the concerns of the population of the Alpes Maritimes within the departmental assembly.
Patrick Allemand: “This agreement allows us to present ourselves to the electorate with a collective potential among privileged partners. It represents a balance point between privileged partners. Now that the Left parties and movements have come together in a unique political project, it is up to the right, divided between UMP and FN, to show the voters its true face. This election transcends its specific framework and will also be a test for President Sarkozy’s policy and his local accomplices, the ‘duo’ Estrosi-Ciotti, who incidentally will present their candidates under the label ‘Together for Nice’ and not UMP!”
What can we say… can we talk about the biter bit? After so much invoking Sarkozy’s name and displaying proximity with him, they end up hiding the name of their own Party!
We want to be optimistic about the result. We will run a grassroots campaign and we hope to replicate the positive dynamic of the last regional election.”
Mari-Luz Hernandez-Nicaise (E.E-LV): “We want to affirm our legitimacy as an opposition force at the General Council and not be considered… an ‘anomaly’ as Mr. Ciotti would like. We are completely opposed to the majority’s policy at the departmental assembly, particularly regarding its social and environmental aspects. Thus this agreement with the Socialist Party was necessary to maximize our chances of success.”
