Richard Wagner envisioned his festivals in Bayreuth as a public celebration, similar to those in Greece over 2000 years ago, with free admission.
This idea proved impractical, so in 1882, a year before his death, he proposed creating a “New Patronage” to allow free access for “sincere friends of my art” and, if necessary, to cover their travel and accommodation expenses.
Thus, the Richard Wagner Stipendienstiftung (Scholarship Foundation) was born. The Foundation offers young talented artists: musicians, singers, conductors, or other future theater professionals, who can be considered the next generation of the Bayreuth Festival, a chance to attend several performances at the Festspielhaus to understand the work done in Bayreuth and to perform at the Scholars’ concert.
The Richard Wagner Circle of Nice Cรดte dโAzur is pleased to announce that their candidate, soprano Chrystelle Couturier, has been awarded this Scholarship.
To support this young singer with promising talent, our circle invites you to discover her voice by attending a recital of the greatest arias and duets from Romantic Opera before her departure for Bayreuth.
You will, of course, hear her in her favorite Wagnerian opera heroines but also in an eclectic program that combines the great Italian repertoire with the French repertoire.
She will be accompanied by cellist Manfred Stilz, with an international career (New York Carnegie Hall, Germany, Italy…). First Prize at the CNSM in Paris, trained by M. Rostropovich, Y. Menuhin, G. Sebok, First Prize at the Belgrade International Competition, who will notably shine in the beautiful solo of Amรฉlia’s aria from The Masked Ball or in Brahms’s First Sonata, in collaboration with pianist Martine De Barros.
The Corsican Baritone Jean-Antoine Ferrali (Discovery Prize at the Printemps de Bourges and “coup de cลur” of Fnac for his album “Corsican Mรฉlodies”) will also be present, sometimes portraying the diabolical Scarpia from Tosca, sometimes the passionate and loving Silvio from Pagliacci or Athanaรซl from Thaรฏs.
Musical Romanticism centers on Man and his emotions and celebrates the grandiose… From Wagner to Brahms through Massenet or Verdi…
An exceptional moment where the piano, voice, and cello will take you on an emotional journey…
