On May 7, 1945, at 2:41 AM, the act of German capitulation was signed in Reims. The fighting was to cease on May 8 at 11:01 PM. The news was officially communicated on May 8 at 3 PM. The next day, May 9, at 12:16 AM, the general capitulation was signed in Berlin. May 8 thus remains a symbolic date, celebrated by almost all the municipalities.
On the occasion of the 68th anniversary of the victory on May 8, 1945, Christophe Mirmand, Prefect of the Alpes-Maritimes, Christian Estrosi, Deputy Mayor of Nice, President of the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis, Eric Ciotti, Deputy, President of the General Council of the Alpes-Maritimes, and Colonel Jean-Pierre Bedu, Departmental Military Delegate of the Alpes-Maritimes, will celebrate the victory of the Allies and the end of the Second World War at 10 AM at Place du 8 Mai on the Quai des États-Unis.
This day will be an opportunity to commemorate the events of the Second World War.

10:00 AM: Laying of wreaths at Place-du-8-Mai.
10:15 AM: Departure of the procession to the War Memorial.
10:25 AM: Arrival of the procession at the War Memorial.
10:30 AM: Start of the ceremony. Salute to the flag by the authorities. Presentation of decorations. Reading of messages. Laying of wreaths.
