Nice Premium offered the candidates for the legislative elections a set of questions with the aim of allowing its readers to get to know them better, evaluate them, and thus help them in their choice.
Nice-Premium: If you had to introduce yourself, what would you say?
Mathilde Viot: My name is Mathilde Viot, I am running in the legislative elections for the 7th constituency of Alpes Maritimes, FN candidate. I work in education and live in the Cannes basin. I am the mother of a little boy. I am a native of the region and a member of an association for the homeless.
NP: What is the reason for your political commitment?
MV: The current situation in France is worrying, the French are finding it increasingly difficult to meet their daily needs, and living conditions are deteriorating without the UMPS doing anything about it. On the contrary, debt is increasing and the policies of recent years have only exacerbated social and economic injustices. The Rassemblement Bleu Marine is the only hope to lift France out of this quagmire. This is the time to be active if we want to try to get out of this abyss, that is why I got involved.
NP: Have you been elected before or have you been a candidate in legislative elections?
MV: No, I have never been elected or a candidate. I am not a professional political analyst, I am a citizen committed to my own.
NP: What are the strengths of your positioning towards the Azur electorate?
MV: It is clear that as a FN representative, I am the only one who can truly offer an alternative to the PS or UMP government. We mustn’t be deceived, experience has shown us that these two political groups work together and will vote for laws together: only FN deputies will be able to oppose certain laws and rigorously denounce the laws that are coming. During the last mandate, over 26 taxes and levies were added, and neither the PS nor the UMP attempted to curb that. The French see their bills rise (VAT, insurance, …) and their purchasing power diminish, and no one moves. An FN deputy is the guarantee of giving power back to the people.
NP: Why are you a candidate in this constituency?
MV: The commission nominated me in this constituency for reasons of gender parity but also because I know the region well. I was born in Cannes, but I spent my early years in Fontonne; in fact, I took my first steps on the beaches of Antibes. Even if the legislative elections are national elections, I believe that my party thought that I was the most capable of representing this constituency.
NP: How would you define your constituency?
MV: My constituency is very beautiful and has very diverse landscapes. We are lucky to have this sublime seaside and small villages like Courmes, Le Rouret, Roquefort, etc., which show a poetic and green face of the hinterland. Despite this beauty, there are real difficulties for those who live here daily: housing problems, education, parking, transportation policy, prices, etc. A real national will is needed to restore things!
NP: In your opinion, what are the first urgencies and projects to implement?
MV: There are many urgencies to be implemented, but for that, we need an FN majority. Nevertheless, in the current configuration, it is absolutely necessary to restore a priority of national policy and favor policies for the French rather than for the Brussels bureaucrats. I will oppose any new taxes, defend the French rather than Brussels interests, advocate zero tolerance for criminals, and support a balanced budget to not increase the debt.
NP: Do you think the Presidential election will influence the electoral choice?
MV: It is evident that the Presidential election will influence the legislative votes: the choice of the President, the awareness of the French, and the Bleu Marine wave. I hope that the 20% of French people who mobilized during the Presidential elections will mobilize for these legislative elections. Similarly, those who are still hesitating must take a stand: afterward, it will be for five years, and we will have to endure it!
NP: What is your forecast for the result of the first round?
MV: I am not one for predictions, but I hope for at least 15%: all voters must mobilize!
NP: Do you envision any scenario for the second round?
MV: No, I am not in the place of the voters, and we have often found that predictions turned out to be wrong. I await the citizens’ votes. I hope each will cast a useful vote and not a vote of notoriety: Mr. Leonetti benefits from his multiple mandates and praises his merits as Mayor of the city of Antibes, but it should not be forgotten that the UMP increased the debt by 500 billion โฌ and handed the country to the left!
NP: How is your campaign going and what are your upcoming milestones?
MV: My campaign is going quite well; voters are approaching me, and many support me, for which I thank them. They all tell me that we must continue the struggle and that fortunately, there are still sincere candidates who want to fight for others. Others are still hesitating, and I encourage them to get in touch with us. I have held several public meetings, and next weekend, I will be in the hinterland.
NP: What will you do on June 10th?
MV: On June 10th? I will vote!
