There are 11,165 amateurs and professionals who set off for the 42.195 km of the Nice-Cannes marathon. Eliud Magut won the event in 2h10’30” ahead of William Biama and Katui Kipkemoi. The record for this Nice-Cannes wasnโt broken (2h08’40”). Among the women, it was an Ethiopian โ Aregu Lechisa โ who won the race in 2h31’56”.

Pleasant temperatures, an overcast but bright sky, and a very light wind created ideal racing conditions that could have allowed official records to be broken. Runners ccompanied the coast for 42.195 km before crossing the red carpet of the finish line, set up on the legendary Boulevard de la Croisette in Cannes.
At 8:00 AM, several thousand spectators gathered to cheer on the competitors, who set off in just 3 minutes and 20 seconds, making it one of the fastest starts in the world. Accompanied by pacemakers, the runners set off on an impressive 42.195 km course, laid out through the most beautiful landscapes of the Cรดte d’Azur.
On the men’s side, the competition began right from the first kilometers. Maintaining a fast pace from Nice to Cannes, the Kenyan Eliud Magut took the lead of the race at the 28th kilometer and never lost it, winning on the Croisette ahead of his compatriots William Biama and Katui Kipkemoi. Crossing the line in 2h 10min 31sec, Eliud is very satisfied with his race as he improves his personal best by about 6 minutes.
On paper, the race for the podium among women was very open. The Kenyan Emily Rotich led for most of it, before being overtaken by Ethiopian Aregu Lechisa, who secured a beautiful victory in 2h 31min 56sec, close to the event record. Rotich finished in second place, and Ayuntu Dakebo crossed the line in third position.
Organized in partnership with the French Athletics Federation, the French Marathon Championships also took place this Sunday.
The best French athletes gathered at the Alpes-Maritimes Nice-Cannes Marathon. Stรฉphane Lefranc was crowned French Champion of the discipline with a time of 2h 18min 01sec.
Among women, Aline Camboulives retained her title as French Champion, with a performance of 2h 28min 49sec.
The Marathon Relay of Alpes-Maritimes Nice-Cannes, sponsored by the Caisse d’Epargne Cรดte d’Azur, offered the opportunity for runners, regardless of their physical condition, to participate in the event as part of a team of 6 runners. On a course strictly identical to that of the marathon, with distances ranging from 3 to 11 km, 386 teams took the start to share the effort and joy of running a marathon with family, friends, or colleagues.
The team Vestiaires Principautรฉ Cannoise won the Marathon Relay, ahead of AS Monaco and the Ceintralu NMA team.
The 2012 edition of the Alpes-Maritimes Nice-Cannes Marathon was, by all accounts, a tremendous success. 58 nationalities were represented in the peloton, confirming the eventโs international appeal.
The Running Expo Marathon village, set up for the first time on the Promenade des Anglais, attracted 35,000 visitors over the three days of opening.
1,600 volunteers contributed, through their support and commitment, to the success of the event.
