Disruptions during the moment of silence in schools: Eric Ciotti questions the Minister of National Education

Latest News

In a letter sent on Monday to the Minister of National Education, Najat Vallaud-Belkacem, the president of the General Council of Alpes-Maritimes expressed his concern following the behavior of minors who refused to observe the minute of silence on January 8th in tribute to the victims of the attack on Charlie Hebdo.

The tone of the Minister’s interpellation by Eric Ciotti is clear and precise as usual: “I strongly denounce the unbearable reaction of these young people who undermine the values of the Republic, the authority within National Education, and the memory of the victims.”

For the elected official, these disruptions allegedly occurred in at least 70 schools and should be severely punished.

Ms. Vallaud-Belkacem responded indirectly during her speech addressed to the academy rectors and other senior officials of the educational system, which she gave yesterday in the presence of the Prime Minister.

“There were incidents: A hundred were reported by the rectorial network, likely more. All these incidents are unacceptable. They have been addressed immediately, in the form of educational dialogue and/or sanctions.

The School of the Republic and its officials do not tolerate the intolerable. They react immediately, with firmness, educational concern, and in accordance with the law, that is to say, within the framework of the internal regulations of schools and institutions.

When the facts require sanctions, these are proportionate to the offenses committed and systematically accompanied by educational work with the students, and by involving the parents in the educational nature of the sanction.”

End of the issue?
