On this day dedicated to women, on their special day, how can we forget Camille Muffat who passed away suddenly a year ago, almost to the day, on March 9th in a helicopter incident in Argentina after she had stopped competing.
A symbol of womanhood, youth, performance, and values that only sports can convey.
She represents more than anyone those women whose success is a form of equality: athlete, champion.
On this day meant to celebrate womenโs rights, how can we not also see it as a right to remembrance, this beautiful sentiment that ensures those who are no longer with us, continue to live in our hearts.
This is what Eric Ciotti, president of the Department, wanted to remind us in his address along with touching words from Laurence Muffat, Camilleโs mother.
This is also an opportunity, in this Olympic year, to wish good luck to the 15 athletes of Team 06 Rio 2016*.
Camille Muffat was part of Team 06 London 2012: by winning gold in the 400-meter freestyle, then silver in the 200-meter freestyle, and finally bronze in the 4×200 freestyle relay, she became the third Frenchwoman, after Micheline Ostermeyer and Laure Manaudou, to win three Olympic medals in a single edition.
