After a great success in Paris, the exhibition “The Dance of Forms” is presented from March 5 at the Musรฉe dรฉpartemental des Arts asiatiques in Nice.
This exhibition is part of a fruitful partnership with the Guimet Museum and marks the entry into the national collections of a set of works donated by the Japanese artist Samiro Yunoki, a specialist in the traditional technique of stencil dyeing on textiles, known as katazome.
The diversity of the pieces reflects the variety of his work, a blend of ancient craftsmanship and modern vision, both in terms of techniques and materials used and the decorative motifs.
Apart from works steeped in traditional Japan, a large part of his work is influenced by the West, particularly by 20th-century painters who elevated forms and colors: Matisse, Miro, Kandinskyโฆ The clarity of contours, remarkable sense of movement, and imposing formats make Yunoki’s textile works not just flat decorations but three-dimensional and dynamic art objects, bursting with color and elegance.
