Following the Brussels attacks, the Minister of the Interior announced the deployment of 1,600 additional police officers and gendarmes across the country, with enhanced security at borders and transport infrastructures. The Vigipirate plan has been raised to its maximum level, with numerous patrols in public places.
Franรงois Xavier Lauch, chief of staff for the prefect of Alpes-Maritimes, details the security measures taken in the department:
โIt has been decided to reinforce security at the two terminals of Nice Cรดte dโAzur. Since November 13, we have been ensuring 100% checks of passengers arriving from both Schengen and non-Schengen flights. These checks are being maintained. Furthermore, an immediate reminder of the screening rules has been sent to private security providers, both for passengers and luggage.โ
โParticular attention is given to other public transport sites. A Vigipirate patrol is at the Nice train station and another at the Cannes train station. No specific threat has been identified for Alpes-Maritimes, but the terrorist threat remains at its highest.โ
