The deliberation of the Municipal Council this Monday to grant Charles Pasqua continues to fuel controversy. It is true that the former politician was a controversial figure and who, before his soul ascended to paradise, certainly required a long stay in Purgatory!
Between the socialists who expressed a negative opinion only to later vote for the deliberation (“We will vote for this deliberation. However, we ask you not to propose names of persons convicted by the justice system in the future”) and the representative of the PRG Dominique Boy-Mottard, the digs continued on social media.
โNaming the streets of a city should not be a game of chance, a careless manipulation or a trade-off (you take mine and I accept yours!). It is about carrying out an educational mission and reflecting republican exemplarity for several generations,โ commented the latter subtly.
Patrick Allemand’s response: “In this case, I did not want to vote against an avenue named after Simone Veil, against a school named after Charles Gottlieb, against a library named after Marguerite Duras, against a street named after Philippe Seguin or against a street named after Franรงoise Giroud. I did not want to vote against a tribute to Sister Emmanuelle, etc., as many distinguished figures in the same deliberation.”
Fortunately, the list of names does not stop at Charles Pasqua (see box).
Independent right-wing municipal councilor Gaรซl Nofri took the opportunity to address them with a particularly sharp comment:
Since this morning, and following the last Municipal Council, left-wing elected officials Patrick Allemand and Dominique Boy-Mottard have been escalating on social media against Charles PASQUA on the grounds that he was convicted. I remind you that Charles PASQUA benefited from six dismissals and only one final conviction (covering two cases).
Regarding the conditions of the release of hostages in Lebanon, I find it particularly unworthy, not to say vulgar, to see the memory of a man of action, committed to saving the lives of his compatriots, dragged through the mud by some second-rate actors who have never tried to save anything other than their political careers.
