The Cagnes-sur-Mer racecourse paid tribute, this Friday, to the sculptor Sacha Sosno, who passed away on December 3, 2013. The race evening was dedicated to him, and a permanent exhibition of his works will be held at the racecourse until August 9.
It was one of the anticipated dates of this summer meeting at the Cagnes-sur-Mer racecourse, the tribute to Sacha Sosno. This sculptor-painter-plastic artist passed away on December 3, 2013, at the age of 76. He is the creator of the “Square Head,” a building that houses the central library of Nice near Garibaldi Square. He was a big fan of horse racing, as evidenced by his many visits to the Côte d’Azur racecourse. His major work, “Il n’y a plus d’obstacle” (There Are No More Obstacles), stands in front of the honor gate of the main square, facing the sea.
On Friday, July 25, the traditional evening of the city of Cagnes-sur-Mer took place, which is why the Mayor, Louis Nègre, and the president of the racing society, François Forcioli-Conti, associated the meeting with Sacha Sosno. “Sosno, the racecourse, and the city of Cagnes-sur-Mer are a winning trio,” declared Louis Nègre, mayor of the town, using a phrase familiar to horse racing enthusiasts.
The main event of the Cagnes meeting became the Grand Prix of the city of Cagnes-sur-Mer-Sacha Sosno. This endowed race saw the victory of the horse Roller Quick, trained and driven by Jean Uroz. The winner of this event was presented with a replica of Sacha Sosno’s sculpture “Il n’y a plus d’obstacle.”
This tribute evening was also an opportunity to highlight the numerous works created by Sacha Sosno. The exhibition of these sculptures, lithographs, and photos was inaugurated this Friday and will last until August 9. A heartfelt tribute was paid to the Azurean artist, concluding the evening with a short film retracing his work, shown on the giant screen at the racecourse.
