On the occasion of the rollback concerning the pricing of extracurricular activities, the mayor of Nice announced that the City will sell the municipally owned villa, which has been rented for a long time as the official residence of the rector of the Academy.
For Christian Estrosi, this act is meant to be a slap in the face to the Minister of National Education, who will have to find new accommodation for the senior official.
In fact, this may backfire, as with the abolition of the regulations on rents under the ALUR law, there will be an opportunity for the Ministry to reduce this cost, currently over 5,000 euros per month for a property of nearly 600 square meters.
Naturally, Christian Estrosi is fully aware that this sale has nothing to do with the funding of extracurricular activities, and he knows very well the difference between capital revenue and operating expenses.
But he has to play the game a little and entertain the public.
Come on, a little humor, Mr. Allemand!
Statement from Patrick Allemand:
I am astonished to learn that the rectorate of Nice rented a villa from the city of Nice on very favorable terms. For the 7 years that he has been in office, the mayor of Nice has not ended this arrangement with the state that has robbed the taxpayers of Nice.
He reveals it publicly to indicate that he will fund the reform of extracurricular reception times by selling this villa. It is a demagogic communication operation.
Indeed, the sale of a villaโeven if it is valued at 2.6 million eurosโproduces an exceptional revenue, whereas the reform of extracurricular activities will be an ordinary operating expense.
It is a gimmick and a provocation.
