The final event of the 2015 Trail Nature Challenge, the Trail des Baou, will take place this Sunday in Saint-Jeannet.
This challenge is based on 14 dates organized by associations affiliated with the Departmental Athletics Committee (French Athletics Federation), offering 26 races and resulting in three rankings: 1/ Trail Challenge: 6 events (42 km and more); 2/ Nature Challenge: 10 events (between 21 and 41 km); 3/ Discovery Challenge: 9 events (between 10 and 20 km). Three Handi Trail events were also contested.
Organized by the Alpes-Maritimes department in partnership with the Departmental Off-Road Racing Commission (C.D.C.H.S), the 8th Trail Nature Challenge 06 was spread over courses across the department’s territory, from the Mediterranean balconies with the volcanic rocks of the Estérel and the Baou de St Jeannet, to the mid-country with the Paillon valley, the Estéron valley, and the Mentonnais, the high country with the Vésubie and Roya valleys, and up to the snowy slopes of Castérino… plus the “Vertical Kilometer” in Saint-Martin-Vésubie.
In addition to the competitive events, sports hikes with no ranking stakes were added for everyone on the official race courses. Nature Animation: activities dedicated to the discovery of nature, initiation, and awareness of ecosystems on the official sites of the Trail Nature Challenge 06 events.
They were supervised by professionals of the themes addressed, such as birds, prehistory, fauna, flora, and geology.
