2017 Presidential Election: The PCF Will Rally for Mélenchon

Latest News

From Thursday, November 24th, the communists were called to vote on the choices to be made for the 2017 deadlines.

To this end, the communists nationally chose to adopt the proposed resolution by 94%, which sets for the 2017 deadlines “a pact of commitments for France and to build the gathering of all available forces for a new left-wing majority pact alternative to austerity and present candidates in all constituencies.”

In the Alpes-Maritimes, 80.2% of the communists approved this resolution.

Regarding the presidential choice, nationally 53.5% of the communists and 72.6% in the Alpes-Maritimes voted for the candidacy of Jean-Luc Mélenchon with “an autonomous communist campaign.”

It is a close result. The French Communist Party (PCF) activists voted 53.6% in favor of supporting Jean-Luc Mélenchon’s candidacy for the presidential election, against 46.4% who preferred an independent candidacy, announced the PCF leadership on Saturday, November 26th.

More than 56,000 members in good standing were called to vote between Thursday and Saturday, with a voter turnout of 72%.

As a reminder, in a previous consultation during the PCF’s national conference, the party leaders had voted for an autonomous candidacy.

Following the trend of recent times, the grassroots once again disavowed their leaders: you want to impose your solution on us? Well, we will do the opposite.

A tough presidential election looms ahead, and especially the prospect of facing legislative elections that risk being bloody and could, in the absence of an agreement with the socialists, mark the end of the communists’ presence in the National Assembly.

Mélenchon will have made his round and satisfied his ego.
