It is in Nice that the 8th International Congress of Victims of Terrorism will be held in November. For three days, events will be organized to encourage the recognition of these individuals who have been marked for life by attacks.
The first International Congress of Victims of Terrorism was organized in Madrid in 2004, initiated by the San Paolo CEU University and the Spanish Foundation for Victims of Terrorism. After being held in Paris in 2011, the Congress will take place in Nice on November 21, 22, and 23, 2019, as announced by Guillaume Denoix de Saint Marc, the Founder and General Director of the French Association of Victims of Terrorism.
The main objective of this Congress is to give significant visibility to those injured by attacks. The testimonies will help advance the recognition of their status by society and authorities. “Victims are not subjects of pain, but actors in reconstruction,” stated Guillaume Denoix de Saint Marc. Many experts and politicians are also expected to be present to create a dynamic exchange.
The choice of Nice to host this Congress may seem appropriate given the deadly attack of July 14, 2016. It also allows for a tribute to the first responders who managed to react calmly and exemplarily. Other topics will be addressed, such as the fight against radicalization and a focus on the particular place of children victims of attacks.
In total, several hundred participants from around the world are expected.
