Building activities ready to restart

Isn’t there a saying, “When the building goes, everything goes”?

Yesterday, a round table gathered the Mayor of Nice and President of the Metropolis along with construction industry stakeholders to review the resumption of their activities.

Beyond the already announced economic measures, a number of proposals were presented, discussed, and approved for future implementation.

First, the resumption of construction sites adhering to the implementation of “barrier” measures: 33 out of 44 sites identified as priorities can resume immediately, as well as 71 out of 165 “regular” sites.

Then, the initiation of new public orders will be anticipated, targeting orders that benefit our local businesses. The goal of investing €435 million this year across both local governments is maintained, and every effort will be made to make up for the delay caused by the crisis. Planned investments for 2021 that can be brought forward will start earlier.

In this revival, local businesses will be favored by reactivating the “Metropolitan Small Business Act” and by significantly facilitating and simplifying local small and medium-sized enterprises’ access to public markets launched by our local governments. This will be consolidated at the next metropolitan council by systematizing the obligation to use short supply chains and criteria related to sustainable development.

A “Metropolitan Health Safety Label” will support construction companies in adopting barrier gestures.

This label will help these companies to adopt and implement health safety guidelines with the aim of quickly resuming activities; it will reassure clients (individuals, communities, or businesses) about compliance with barrier gestures and social distancing health measures and will distribute health kits (masks, gloves, gel).

A team of experts will be formed, in partnership with the chamber of commerce and construction federations, to advise, support, and certify companies.

The resumption of activities will be accompanied by the gradual reopening of recycling centers.

Starting Monday, April 27, 9 metropolitan recycling centers will reopen, and all recycling channels will once again be available. Sanitary and safety procedures will be implemented to limit physical contact between people and thus protect them from the risk of virus contamination.
