We knew the month, but not the exact date: we now know that the municipal elections will be held on Sundays, March 15 and 22, 2020.
The Ministry of the Interior announced it this Tuesday. This date also determines the deadline for submitting candidacies, set for Thursday, February 27.
The law requires the municipal elections to be held in March, and they must be scheduled considering the school vacation calendar.
The Minister of the Interior also reminds that people needing to register on the electoral lists can submit their request until February 7.
Municipal councilors are elected for six years, using a list voting method that varies according to the size of the municipalities. The lists must contain as many names as seats to be filled and must respect gender parity.
