Coronavirus: 18,436 new cases and 172 deaths in 24 hours

Latest News

The threat of another lockdown is becoming increasingly palpable due to the spread of the more dangerous and deadly British variant in France. For now, the government wants to dismiss this idea and focus on the vaccination campaign. Here is the COVID-19 update…

18,436 new positive COVID-19 cases have been recorded in France over the past 24 hours, bringing the total to 3,053,617. There were 172 deaths recorded this Sunday (compared to 230 last Saturday), increasing the total death toll to 73,049 since the outbreak of the epidemic, of which 51,073 were in nursing homes.

According to information provided by Santé Publique France, 18,151 people have received their first vaccine injection, bringing the total to 1,026,871 vaccinated individuals in France since the vaccination campaign launched last December.

Hospitalizations Still on the Rise

In hospitals, the country has a total of 26,393 hospitalizations this Sunday, compared to 25,864 last Saturday. The number of COVID-19 patients in intensive care is now 2,965 (including 175 transferred within a day), which is an increase of 69 in 24 hours.

The positivity rate among those tested stood at 7.1%. A fairly stable level compared to Saturday.

Faced with the health crisis and its increasingly worsening consequences, coupled with the presence of new variants (British and South African) which are much more contagious and dangerous, including for younger people, the government is doing everything possible to combat it. The idea of a new lockdown is increasingly being discussed but remains off the table for now. An analysis of the results of the 6 PM curfew will be carried out this week.
