As always in these situations, after the emotions of the first few days, the tension drops and people begin to think about other things… But the problems remain…
Departmental President Charles-Ange Ginรฉsy chose to go out on the field to show his support for the elected officials and the victims. This Friday, he was accompanied by Francis Tujague and Valรฉrie Tomasini, departmental councilors. The latter resides in Tende, one of the towns most affected by the storm and still isolated.
After flying over the Casterino โ Saint-Dalmas-de-Tende area by helicopter and observing the damage, Charles Ange Ginรฉsy landed in Tende, where he was welcomed by Jean-Pierre Vassallo, Mayor of Tende. He visited the work on the Tende-Saint-Dalmas-de-Tende road axis, then noted the condition of the cemetery, much of which had been washed away by the floods. The Department teams are currently hard at work to restore the road axes.
This was also an opportunity to recognize the forest firefighters of Force 06, and those from Hรฉrault who came to help, as well as the firemen who have been tirelessly mobilized for nearly 2 weeks.
The President of the Alpes-Maritimes Department then went to the Tende Disaster Assistance House located at the Park House.
On this occasion, the President announced the opening of the disaster assistance house in Saint-Dalmas-de-Tende.
In the amphitheater of the Museum of Wonders, Charles Ange Ginรฉsy met with 25 sixth and fifth grade students from Saint-Dalmas-de-Tende residing in Tende who can no longer access the middle school. A medical-psychological emergency unit (CUMP) was set up for the students.
He then went on to Breil-sur-Roya, where alongside the new mayor Sรฉbastien Olharan, he visited the warehouse located near the Drop Zone where helicopters arrive and near the station, which is the central logistics, storage, and resupply area.
After that, he was able to meet the many volunteers present from the very beginning and congratulate them for their exceptional dedication and mobilization.
To finish, the President moved to the right bank of the Lake where the SMIAGE teams have been working for several days to dredge the lake and strengthen the bank to protect homes.
At the end of this, his fourth visit, Charles Ange Ginรฉsy did not hide the seriousness of the situation: “Two weeks after the terrible weather conditions caused by Storm Alex, the emotion is still very present in light of the damage in the Roya Valley. [โฆ] The purpose of my presence here is to observe and assess what has happened but above all to ensure continuity in action. We must be here to develop and save the economy of our valleys. The work is colossal, more than 150 million euros need to be mobilized.”
The Department has offered aid that can go up to โฌ1,500 for individuals, aid up to โฌ5,000 for artisans, shopkeepers, small businesses, and aid up to โฌ10,000 for farmers depending on assessments.
