Vendée Globe: after the Kerguelen Islands…

Latest News

The conditions were quite calm today for the member of the Alpes-Maritimes department. An opportunity to tend to the wounds of TSE-4myplanet, which has been quite shaken in recent days.

While the leaders have changed time zones, now the further they go, the longer the days will become. It’s a bit like wanting a 25-hour day… This is only possible in the Vendée Globe! A very pleasant sensation for the sailors, which Alexia Barrier will experience in about ten days. For now, the skipper has passed the Kerguelen Islands, but the small group that was with her at the back has exploded in flight.

Now, the Nice native finds herself slightly isolated in 25th position, a little over 100 miles behind her friend Miranda Merron, who is evidently experiencing autopilot issues.

By taking a more southern option, Alexia Barrier is getting closer to the ice zone that must not be crossed, but where conditions seem better for sailing. By making this change of course, she will avoid the heart of a small depression, which will offer her winds of around 15 knots on average.

In 24 hours, TSE-4myplanet has covered nearly 500 km with an average speed of 11 knots, proving that the Maralpine isn’t slacking aboard despite her small problem with gudgeons, a piece on which the hydrogenerator is fixed, essential for the continuation of her adventure that should last over 50 more days!
