This Saturday and Sunday will take place the Villefranche Paddle Race, this trendy sporting event will launch the 2018 season of the Coupe de France SUP Race 2018 circuit and will be the scene of a confrontation of the best national and European competitors in Stand Up Paddle in the Bay of Villefranche.
Integrated into the 2018 Coupe de France SUP Race circuit, the Villefranche Paddle Race will kick off the federal paddle competitions season in France. This qualifying circuit for the French SUP championships at the end of the year is featured in the calendar of the best national athletes of the discipline and several major figures on the international scene such as Martin Vitry (2017 French Champion) or Tom Auber (Winner of the International Glagla Race).
Every summer, stand-up paddle (SUP) or “paddle” conquers tens of thousands of new followers, this recent sport imported from the Pacific islands arrived in France 10 years ago and has experienced an exponential development similar to that of windsurfing in the 1990s. Practiced with a paddle on a large surfboard, SUP is easier, more accessible, and more communal than other board sports. This sport is set to democratize to become a mass sport like cycling or running in the near future.
Supported by the Triathlon des Mers association, which organizes multiple nautical triathlons in the region each year, the event aims to boost the practice of SUP in a region that has everything needed for its development.
Competitors will come from all over the country to compete in the arena of the Bay of Villefranche through a long-distance course (15km) and a technical course (5km) that will start from Plage des Mariniรจres in Villefranche.
