This morning, during a public conference, Renaud Muselier will present his proposals to “compensate” the left-wing list (socialists-ecologists and communists) who withdrew from the second round to block Thierry Mariani’s RN, Christian Estrosi, a running mate and right-hand man of the candidate-president, believes that “the sacrificed should not be excluded”.
As in 2015, the left is giving up having representatives on the Regional Council for the next six years. A “sacrifice” recognized by the mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi (former LR), who, after praising the “spirit of responsibility,” calls to “make room for them,” even if it is obviously not possible to let the left enter “into the future executive.”
In 2015, on the occasion of his election under the same circumstances, Christian Estrosi, newly elected president of the Regional Council, had already proposed the idea of a “territorial council” bringing together left-wing elected officials with the aim of “formulating proposals that can be debated in our assembly at the executive’s discretion.”
In fact, this proposal never went beyond its statement. It seems that this time potential left-wing representatives have requested and obtained more precise commitments.
Renaud Muselier has just hinted that “resources will be made available to allow for the presentation of resolutions (?), motions, or wishes in accordance with the internal regulations […] so that there is a voice from my opposition that cannot express itself.”
While awaiting more details, the main concerned, Thierry Mariani, ironically commented on the deal: “In 2015 Castaner took two hours to withdraw, in 2021 it took Felizia two days,” before returning to Christian Estrosi’s remarks: “The mayor of Nice wants to ‘make room for the left in the event of a victory.’ What does that mean? To give them material means to exist politically? To subsidize certain associations like SOS Mรฉditerranรฉe? All this is a bit unclear.”
