The former Prime Minister and the Mayor of Nice concluded the electoral campaign of the ENSEMBLE candidates.
The Former Prime Minister’s Visit
The final stretch for the presidential majority candidates in the 9 constituencies of the department.
Two days before the end of the campaign, it was the former Prime Minister Edouard Philippe who came to give one last push before the vote next Sunday.
A small tour of France for the mayor of Le Havre, who wandered around Nice and its surroundings to support the campaign of the regional candidates on the ground. Carros, Cros de Cagnes, the tennis courts of Les Combles in the Var valley, and the markets in Nice saw the renowned politician stroll by. Exchanges and handshakes marked these visits, under the watchful eyes of candidates delighted by his intervention. It must be said that he is the only nationally prominent politician who visited the department to participate in this electoral campaign.
Edouard Philippe for the Presidential Majority
In the late afternoon on the Promenade du Paillon, in a pastoral setting, and in front of a large audience, the legislative candidates had the opportunity to present themselves. This was followed by a speech from the Mayor and then the final address by Edouard Philippe.
While the first warned against the radical attitude of the โextremesโ who โhave nothing to offerโ and unite in pure criticism of any executive decision, the latter reiterated his call to vote for the presidential party.
This, according to him, is to give the โreelectedโ President of the Republic a โsolid and stableโ majority to enable him to implement and accomplish his reformative agenda that France needs.
In passing, he critiqued Jean-Luc Mรฉlenchon, โa candidate who does not run in an election he wants to win, after having been a candidate in an election he lost.โ
First Round Results Remain Uncertain
Traditionally a right-wing area, sometimes even far-right, but which gave the Unsubmissive a noteworthy result in the last presidential election, the department will witness electoral battles this Sunday with uncertain outcomes.
Thus, the presidential majority will have to defend the three seats obtained in 2017 from the thirst for revenge of the Les Rรฉpublicains candidate, Eric Ciotti, also in full election campaign. Although he has lost momentum at the national level, he remains well-established in the territory. Meanwhile, the candidates of the National Rally openly display their ambitions despite recent upheavals within their ranks between Philippe Vardon, a former strong figure of the party in the region, and Benoรฎt Kandel. On their part, the coalition of the Unsubmissive benefits from the vigor of its leader following his results in the presidential elections.
Whatever the outcome of this campaign, the real challenge will be qualifying for the second round and potentially capturing those who will not turn out to vote.
Tune in on Sunday evening to know the results of the first round and get an initial answer to these questions.
