The last Olympic Selections Advisory Committee (OSAC) met this Friday, July 2. The OSAC listened to the presentations made by the French federations of athletics, basketball, boxing, cycling, equestrian, football, golf, handball, judo, swimming, rugby, taekwondo, tennis, and archery after they had selected their athletes.
The president of the CNOSF, Brigitte Henriques, approved this 13th and final list of selected athletes and will proceed to register them with the organizing committee.
The French delegation heading to the Tokyo Olympic Games will thus consist of 378 athletes โ 212 men (56%) and 166 women (44%) โ representing 31 federations.
The French National Olympic and Sports Committee (CNOSF) released, this Friday, a list of 189 athletes selected for Tokyo. The French delegation will have a total of 378 this summer in Japan.
Twelve athletes from the Cรดte d’Azur are listed in this first list.
Athletics: Rouguy Diallo (Nice Cรดte dโAzur Athletics), Valentin Lavillenie (licensed for the Clermont club but residing in the department).
Boxing: Mourad Aliev (Lรฉgion Nice).
Equestrian (dressage): Alexandre Ayache (Lantosque).
Golf: Romain Langasque (Country Club Cannes/Mougins).
Swimming: Charlotte Bonnet, Jordan Pothain, and Charles Rihoux (Olympic Nice Swimming), Fantine Lesaffre (CN of Antibes).
Tennis: Alizรฉ Cornet, Fiona Ferro (Nice LTC)
Philippe Manassero, president of the CDOS06, acknowledged with satisfaction the great success of the local athletes but doesn’t hide his ambition to see them go further: “I’m a happy president for the significant number of selected athletes, but I’ll be a fulfilled president if each of them returns from Tokyo with a medal,” he reacted.
In fact, “if the important thing is not to win but to participate,” as Baron de Coubertin said… winning isn’t so bad either!
