You may have noticed it, a monumental fresco is displayed on the north facade of the future Cineplanet-Antibes. Named “The Garden of Eden”, it was created by the stencil artist duo Monkeybird.

A Monumental Fresco

This 600m² fresco was created from September 7 to 18, 2022, on the north facade of the future Cineplanet-Antibes. It embodies the perfect artistic and cultural link between the future cinematic facility and the garden that will extend at its base.

This artistic project was born from a collaboration and a long process of artistic gestation linking the community, the Urban Art Festival “Coul’Heures d’Automne,” residents, artists, as well as private operators involved in developing the Marenda Lacan district in the city center.

A Duo of Stencil Artists

Monkeybird is a duo of street art stencil artists, formed by Louis Boidron and Edouard Egéa in 2012.

Both originally from Bordeaux, one is a grapher and design enthusiast, while the other is a poet and a fan of illustration and graphic design.

These stencil artists are recognized for the precision of their lines and the finesse of their cuts, all done by hand. Moreover, they adapt their techniques and artworks to the place that hosts them.

In their works, Monkeybird develops a fantastical world inspired by both medieval imagery, architectural elements, and astronomy. They are also specialized in representations of metaphysical architectures where the bird and the monkey coexist. These animals are symbolic for them and even inspired their artistic name. The bird represents the desire for freedom, and the monkey symbolizes the material and bodily obsessions that man cannot escape.
