The exhibition “Architecture, a Child’s Play” will be held until November 30, 2023, at the Heritage Center in Nice. This new exhibition honors both Niรงoise architecture and children.
Playful and artistic, this exhibition highlights the unique beauty of the azur capital. These tiled roofs, the huts inherited from Terra Amata, its old castle: a whole architectural array that delights both young and old.
Moreover, since 2019, the city of Nice has been labeled a city of art and history. Nice thus joins a network of over 200 cities or countries of art and history throughout France. The purpose of this label is both the preservation and the awareness of the local heritage among the population.
Historians, inventory professionals, guides, and mediators work together at the Heritage Center – Le Sรฉnat in Nice. Through various exhibitions organized throughout the year, it showcases all facets of Nice. Additionally, it offers all the keys to understanding its urban, architectural, and landscape heritage.
When your children get hands-on with the architect’s profession
This exhibition has truly been designed to highlight children’s creativity. A certain structure, just like an architect, is imposed on them. Indeed, the thread of this exhibition goes from observation to manipulation. Initially, a presentation of different games is provided to awaken each individual’s appetites. These games demonstrate the multitude of specific architectural elements: roofs, openings, claddingโฆ
After this observation phase comes drawing. This exhibition has set up a space entirely dedicated to drawing. Young and old can thus depict any architectural production: a house, a building, a monumentโฆ
Finally, the last step in this course is the construction phase. With the help of different materials, children have the opportunity to build, with their little hands, the huts of Terra Amata, the Castle of Nice, or even housesโฆ
“HAVING IMPERIAL DREAMS IN A HUT”
Jules Renard, excerpt from the journal of Jules Renard from 1893-1898
Thus, these words from the French writer allow us to express the entire ideology conveyed by this exhibition. Dream big even when you’re small…
