The verdict is in: the UPE06 list has secured all the elected positions at the territorial Chamber of Commerce as well as the delegates to the regional one.
As a result, Jean-Pierre Savarino will be reappointed as president. Despite a very active campaign that was often subject to criticism, his opponent Daniel Sfecci did not succeed in defying the predictions.
The clan – said with respect – in power came together around a candidate who had not initially been designated. But faced with the danger that a newcomer might disrupt the balances that obviously suit those already in place, Jean-Pierre Savarino regained his full aura, and hence he is in place for a second term.
One might wonder, however, where all this eagerness and interest for an institution comes from, which, according to the official figures declared by the Prefecture, does not seem to be at the heart of entrepreneurs’ attention: out of 103,705 eligible voters, only 3.69% from the commercial sector and 5.83% from the industrial sector bothered to click to cast their vote.
In terms of participatory democracy, there is certainly room for improvement. But probably that was not the issue of this election, but rather the preservation of power.
