November 28 marked the International Day of the Mediterranean, established by the 42 member states of the Union for the Mediterranean.
This day helps promote a common Mediterranean identity and strengthens Euro-Mediterranean cooperation. As presidents of the Euromed Cities Network, the City of Nice and the Nice Cรดte d’Azur Metropolis took this day as an opportunity to reaffirm their ambition to promote a Mediterranean perfectly suited to environmental challenges.
As a reminder, the metropolis had already won the latest call for proposals under the European Neighbourhood programme for cross-border cooperation in the Mediterranean. This project, which brings together partners from 14 Mediterranean countries, aims to meet the global objectives of reducing greenhouse gas emissions. To achieve this, the territories need to adopt a common vision, strategy, and methodology.
The results will be implemented in 9 Mediterranean cities, which will receive support and training to implement these solutions.
Co-financed at 90% by the European program, 1.05 million euros and 18 months will be necessary for the completion of this project, which complements two other projects concerning the energy efficiency of public buildings, coordinated by the City of Nice.
Agnรจs Rampal, deputy mayor of Nice and vice president of the Nice Cรดte d’Azur Metropolis, praised this project: “Our Mediterranean is in danger, and territories play a crucial role in the fight against climate change. As France prepares to organize the Forum of Mediterranean Worlds at the beginning of 2022, our territory continues to assert itself as a beacon of French and European cooperation policy in the Mediterranean.”
