This weekend, around a hundred cat corpses were discovered at the home of an octogenarian who had just been hospitalized. About twenty cats were rescued, and others escaped.
The bodies were discovered at this retiree’s home after his hospitalization. It was his niece who reportedly alerted animal protection organizations after she discovered all these corpses.
Among these bodies were many cats but also squirrels, rats, and even a dog’s jaw were found. Most of the animals were found locked in plastic or wooden boxes, with one discovered half-eaten on the octogenarian’s couch. The UPA 06 association estimates that at least two cats were locked in while still alive.
The cats that were still alive but emaciated were all taken to various veterinary clinics where they are currently on IV drips.
The associations are considering filing a complaint for “mistreatment” or “neglect” according to BFM Côte d’Azur.
The 81-year-old retiree is reportedly suffering from Noah’s Syndrome, which involves taking in more animals than can be properly housed, and Diogenes Syndrome, which results in compulsive hoarding of objects.
The UPA 06 association has posted photos of this true scene of horror on social media. Warning, some images may be disturbing.
